I don’t get to the races as often as I should really. As the saying goes ‘there’s not enough hours in the day’, and it really does seem that way at times. At the end of a working week we all tend to drift into recovery mode and veg out on the sofa, rather than get out and about doing things that are fun and worthwhile. It’a good to make every day count though and as one of the nearest race courses to me is Great Yarmouth I sometimes make the time to head there with family or friends.

While we’re down there we usually make a bit of a day (and night!) of it by heading to the local casino in the evening. The local casino is in a listed building and so is a really nice setting to spend a few hours. Roulette is my go to game in the casino, and even though it’s a game of chance I’ve not done all that bad at it over the year. It perhaps helps that there is an arrangement at Yarmouth where if you take your race course ticket to the casino you get a free drink (for dutch courage!) and free bet on the roulette, so there’s the opportunity to get off to a good start for free. Similarly online casinos often make playing casino games more worthwhile with bonus codes, such as a casino tropez bonus code, or a sign up bonus. This can sometimes tip the balance,  and can make the difference between winning and losing!

We go to the races earlier in the day, prior to the casino. There are a number of racing fixtures each year at Greay Yarmouth, so there’s plenty of options. The entry prices certainly seem to be on the steep side nowadays though, it’s around £20 to get into the Premier Enclosure! Great Yarmouth is known to be something of a ‘favourites course’ and the last time I went a cousin of mine who is known to opt for short prices horses, really cleaned up. Personally I tend to go for an odd speculative bet or two, and so on that occasion it just wasn’t my day. Still you win some and you lose some.

I didn’t get down to Great Yarmouth for the last meeting (18th July), but again it turned out to be a day for the favourites, as they won five of the seven races, including the first three races! I’m next heading there on 31st July, so wish me luck!

There are so many race courses in the UK, and I’ve entertained the idea of branching out and trying to check them all out over a period of time, so that’s possibly an idea for the future. Bucket list time!
